Whale flatulence stuns scientists
'
Researchers claim this is the first photograph of a minke whale letting one go in the icy waters of Antarctica. However, the episode did not detract from their mission, which was to collect DNA from whale dung.'
Perry Smith
Scroll down to the bottom of
this article for the explanation of doign a 'Perry Smith'. I've been trying to find out if it's genuine but can't find anything other than a reference to a staff
photographer in
this article.

Cat-Fi - the Ultimate WiFi dongle
Here's a product we've just developed at work here, it's the latest in Wi-fi technology. The dongle converts a CAT 5e RJ45 connector to a Wi-Fi antenna powered from the onboard NIC in your PC. Here are
a couple of
pictures of the kit.
For those of you without enough money for one, we have a
budget version based on the eXtensible Accelerated Overnet Hardware chipset, or XAOH.
The above was a prank pulled at work today to humiliate some of our geeks here - in total, 9 ppl responded to the mail sent round that said,
'Hi,
We are trialling a segregated Wi-Fi network in the building. As well as determining low signal spots within the building, we are also trialling a new key fob device for enabling desktops and laptops that are not Wi-Fi enabled. (See attached). Netgear have sent us 10 of these devices for trial. These devices are unique on the market as they convert a CAT 5e RJ45 connector to a Wi-Fi antenna powered from the onboard NIC in your PC. Please respond if you are interested in trialling this product.'
The gizmos are just a telephone mod-tap, a keyring, the end of a network cable, some superglue and some snazzy photgraphy
Blunder, Blunder, BlunderCats
Blundercats is a short compilation of
Thundercats outtakes and bloopers. Funny stuff but make sure you've got headphones on if you're at work as it's full of naughty words.
Google Goodness
Version 2 of the
Google Toolbar has been released. I've been beta testing it for a few months now and it's become an essential feature in my browser now. New features include a simple pop-up blocker (which works well but can be a bit annoying when it blocks things that you do want). Google have also released several other new features of note including
a calculator, an advanced
news search and the ability to search including
synonyms of a keyword by putting a '~' in front of a word.
All in all - a nice bunch of new features.
Weird Doggy Accessories
Make your dog the most stylish pet around with
these sunglasses (which are actually very cool indeed) or if your canine has had the misfortune to have been run over, why not get it a
dogmobile harness - no one will laugh or point, honest!

Kylie - the new virus?
Anyone who saw Kylie Minogue's advert for
Agent Provocateur will be well aware of why she's so popular that 'Internet experts' are saying that the advert for her new lingerie range could 'bring companies'
computer networks grinding to a halt'. I've only seen a low-bandwidth
version so far and while it isn't a patch on the AP one, it's always good to watch Kylie writhing around in underwear.
The Top 10 Most Controversial Video Games
The top 10 most
Controversial computer games includes my all-time favourite game
Kingpin at number 5. This truly was the best multiplayer online game I've ever played but I forgot quite how controversial it was when it came out.
Internet Toilet Roll Browser
For those times when you get mails from your boss or just when you want to wipe your backside on spam, you need the

The Shop Game
Ok, so the premise isn't up to much - the idea of
this game is to work the cash till in a shop - but give it a try, it's addictive - I bet you play through at least one game.
Bootlegs are back
After a weird few months of in-fighting, chart hits and disappearances, the bootleg music scene seems to be coming back together again. Not only is there a massive update to
boom selection but
boot 106 have a radio station online for you to sample some of the 14Gb of music they have - a lot of it available for d/load. Get 'legging.
the-phone-book.com
If you like short stories but don't have the time to read them then try
the-phone-book.com wihch specialises in short, short stories. They come in 3 flavours, Mini, micro and SMS (perfect for WAP then).
John F. Kennedy
Hold you mouse over the photo of
John F. Kennedy for an amusing alt-text description. Bit sick really.
Xbox Emulator on it's way...
Not the catchiest of names -
Cxbx - is the start of an XBox emulator for the pc. Whether it will ever get finished or whether Microsoft will stop them first remains to be seen.

Sod Arnie - Vote Georgy Russell For California Governor
Obviously I can't vote in the Californian elections (something to do with a tea party and the British deciding that the size of America scared us and we wantd our mummies) but, anyway, if I could, I'd make sure that this geek's vote went to
Georgy Russell. She was at least born in America unlike the Austrian Arnie but, to quote
Slashdot, she 'studied computer science, often wears ThinkGeek clothing, has a blog, reads Slashdot, and knows how to run Linux.' That means she speaks to me more than any other political candidate I've ever heard of.
The Maxim/FHM effect
A pet hate of mine has always been the sheer amount of photoshop trickery that goes into magazine covers.
Here are some frankly shocking examples of the kind of jiggery-pokery that goes on in order to show you 'perfect' models. Which does make me wonder exactly how ugly the girls from Hollyoaks are in real life 'cos they looked minging when I saw them in the magazines!
Dil-Hole - alternative Dilbert
Not sure that Scott Adams ever expected
Dilbert to become quite so rude but these fan-versions are so lame that they're funny.
Joey Deacon gets a job
Those most excellent d00ds overs at Funjunkie have found that
Joey Deacon's got a job. If that means nothing to you then you're obviously not British aged between 25-35. For more info on Joey see
here or
here. (I still remember the estate near my childhood house was hom to both a Joey Deacon and a Gordon Bennett - we used to knock and run on them all the time although I can't for the life of me remember who Gordon Bennett was - it was just used as a general expletive I think).

Timex Pinball
Cool little online Pinball
game here, made in Flash. The pinball table looks like it's a Timex-style watch hence the title.
What's wrong with an empty coke bottle?
The fact that someone has come up with BriefRelief
TM, a "sanitary solution for the mobile work force industry" (read: a loo for people who work at the top of telegraph poles etc.), doesn't surprise me.
What surprises me is the
15min training video that's beem produced.
It's a bag, you pee in it, how much training do you realy need?
